Starting your first martial arts class can be exciting—and a little nerve-wracking. At Mighty Martial Arts in Las Vegas, we make your first visit simple and welcoming. Here’s exactly what will happen and how to prepare.
Quick prep before you arrive
Book online: Reserve your free trial through the studio schedule so you have a confirmed spot and receive a calendar invite.
Sign forms early: Complete the waiver and new-student info before class to speed check-in.
Pick the right class: Choose a beginner session or the age-appropriate slot—see our [Schedule] or [Programs] pages if unsure.
Dress simply: Comfortable athletic clothes (sweatpants, leggings, t-shirt). Avoid jewelry and zippers.
For parents — what matters most (short, reassuring)
Safety first: Certified instructors emphasize controlled technique and minimal contact in beginner classes.
Clear supervision: Small-group ratios and guided drills so kids get attention and corrections.
Viewing & pickup: A quick tour at check-in will show you the waiting/viewing area and child pickup procedures.
Support the process: Please avoid giving instructions or corrections from the viewing area during class—this can make children self-conscious. Cheer quietly from the sidelines and share feedback with the coach after class.
Quick reassurance: “Parents often tell us their child felt comfortable after the first 10 minutes.” — Joe, parent.

What to bring
Water bottle (*labeled)
Towel (optional)
Any meds (inhaler, EpiPen) with a note for staff -We appreciate it when parents and students inform us about their needs and expectations from the beginning.
Photo ID & emergency contact info (for adults or guardians).
Arrival & check-in (first 10–15 minutes)
Arrive 10–15 minutes early to check in, say hi to the instructor, and handle waivers.
Staff will confirm your booking, ask about medical notes, what goals you have! and show you the studio layout.
Kids get a quick meet-and-greet to reduce nerves; instructors explain the class flow in simple terms.
Typical class structure (what you’ll experience)
Most beginner classes follow this flow (45–60 minutes total):
Warm-up (5 min): light cardio + mobility.
Fundamentals (15 - 25 min): stance, footwork, basic techniques practiced slowly.
Skill practice / partner work (10 min): focused drills, often guided or self defense.
Cool-down & wrap (5 min): stretch, brief feedback, and take-home tip.
Instructors prioritize safety and correct form — contact is controlled and supervised in sessions.
Tips to get the most from your first visit
Attend again within the week — repetition helps solidify learning.
Give your best effort during class — our coaches provide structured, guided practice so students improve most effectively during scheduled sessions.
Ask for feedback — instructors love correcting form; it speeds improvement.
Bring a buddy if possible — students often feel more comfortable with a familiar face.
